Update Your Policies for 2023

Updated: Nov 27, 2022

So much has happened in the past few years, it's hard to keep up with what days you're going into the office, let alone your company's internal policies! But an Employee Handbook is essential to your business, now more than ever. Usually, it is created when your business is formed and updated at least yearly to keep up with current industry, state, and federal guidelines.

A typical Handbook will include topics such as attendance, benefits, timekeeping, behavioral expectations, sexual harassment, telephone usage, and things of that nature. Now-a-days, many businesses will also need to include telecommuting or remote work policies, COVID procedures, and social media restrictions.

Ultimately, a good Employee Handbook will define expectations (both what the company expects from its employees and what employees can expect from the company), create a more productive environment allowing your business to run smoothly, and help defend your company against employee complaints or claims. Without a written policy, you're leaving your business vulnerable and your employees with never-ending questions.

Does your start-up need to create an Employee Handbook? If your business already has one, when was the last time it was updated?
